Популярность деревянных заборов объясняется свойствами древесины. Этот материал:
- недорогой;
- легко поддаётся ручной обработке;
- не требует специальных навыков при установке забора;
- недефицитный;
- в декоративном оформлении ограждений превосходно сочетается с другими стройматериалами;

От чего защищают древесину
В первую очередь дерево как стройматериал нуждается в защите от грибков.
Обработка столбов забора перед монтажом лагов
Их в природе очень много, но наиболее распространёнными являются синь, плесенные и гнилостные виды. Это растительные дереворазрушающие организмы. Одни изменяют только внешнюю сторону изделия, другие, проникая внутрь, приводят в негодность всю древесную массу, которая на последней стадии гниения превращается в труху.
Синь и плесень не разрушают древесину, а только изменяют её поверхностную цветовую окраску. Деревянное изделие приобретает некрасивые пёстрые пятна белого, синего или серого цвета. А гнилостный грибок поражает всю древесную массу.
Древесина, как только начала гнить, покрывается бледными рыжими пятнами, которые впоследствии становятся трухой. Защита деревянного забора от насекомых-вредителей не менее важна, чем от гнили. К тому же некоторые из них являются разносчиками грибковых спор. Жучки-короеды повреждают ствол дерева, прокладывая многочисленные ходы только под корой.
Такой материал ещё годится для некоторых строительных работ, если у него отсутствуют другие повреждения. Но если древесный массив повреждён глубокими ходами, сделанными насекомыми, то он пригоден только для топлива. Частая смена погодных условий также губительно действует на деревянную изгородь. То увлажнения, то высыхания приводят к растрескиванию материала. Зимой к этим разрушительным воздействиям прибавляется замерзание влаги в порах древесины. А ещё деревянные заборы боятся огня.
Менее губительными для древесины являются ультрафиолетовые лучи. Они разрушают лигнин – природный полимер, который содержится в дереве, создаёт его структуру, твёрдость и цвет. От их воздействия деревянные изделия со временем выгорают, становятся серыми, рыхлыми, а защитить их можно непрозрачным покрытием.
Средства защиты
Для защиты конструкций из дерева используют специальные химические средства. Их производят в следующих субстанциях:
- в виде водных растворов;
Обработка древесины водным раствором - пасты;
- органических растворов;
- масляных составов.
В практике домашних умельцев используется простейший способ обработки древесины. Её на сутки опускают в ванну с раствором железного или медного купороса. Или же пропитывают отработанным горячим маслом. Простой, достаточно эффективный метод защиты – это обработка деревянного забора скипидаром или дёгтем. Главное в борьбе с разрушителями древесины – создать такую среду, в которой они не могут обитать и размножаться.
Грибки и насекомые любят влажный воздух, поступающий через поры дерева, которые можно закрыть, закупорить. Таким образом, будут созданы неблагоприятные условия для существования древесных вредителей. Для защиты изделий из дерева, постоянно пребывающих в условиях влаги, разработан специальный состав – жидкий пергамин. В его составе антисептики и гербициды.
Раствор легко проникает внутрь досок и деревянных столбов, вытесняя оттуда воду. Затем он полимеризуется и наглухо закрывает щёлочки и поры, не пропуская внутрь ни воздуха, ни жидкости, без которых древесным вредителям жизнь становится невозможной.
Последовательность обработки
У начинающих домашних мастеров иногда возникает вопрос: сначала надо возвести ограждение, а затем уже обрабатывать его химикатами и красить, или же всё это надлежит сделать с деревянными деталями до их сборки. Здесь однозначного ответа нет. Первый вариант хорош тем, что собранную конструкцию удобно покрывать защитными материалами и краской. Преимущества исполнения второго варианта: забор не будет иметь необработанных пятен в труднодоступных местах и соединениях.
Уход за древесным материалом начинается со дня его покупки.
Последовательность такова:
- Удалить кору с не обрезной доски, деревянных столбов. Она может способствовать появлению древесных точильщиков и грибковой плесени.
- Прострогать прожилины досок. При такой обработке поры закрываются, а дерево будет дольше служить.
- Пропитать горячим гудроном и обернуть рубероидом ту часть столбов, которую надо будет закопать в землю, где велико воздействие влаги.
- Чтобы исключить процесс гниения более тщательно обработать нижние торцы досок, особенно если предвидится их контакт с землёй.
Для обработки древесины антисептик используют в два этапа. Первую пропитку проводят после завершения монтажа забора, а спустя некоторое время её повторяют. Делать это следует очень аккуратно, помня, что этот материал очень токсичен.
Подготовка к покраске
Если же хозяин принял решение деревянный забор покрыть краской, то после завершения процедуры с антисептиком на него наносят грунтовочный слой. Он обеспечит прочность, долгий срок службы покраски, защитит древесину от гниения. После высыхания грунтовку наносят ещё раз. Покрывать древесину плотной цветной краской нерационально. Дерево теряет природную привлекательность.
Поэтому деревянные заборы рекомендуется обрабатывать пропиткой, морилкой или лаком. Натуральный рисунок остаётся на виду и сохраняется на весь срок эксплуатации забора.
В магазинах стройматериалов большой выбор лаковых материалов: акриловых, алкидных, полиуретановых, дисперсионных. Любой из них пригоден для покрытия поверхности дерева, но наиболее экологически чистым является лак на основе акрила. Он не закрывает рисунок дерева, а подчёркивает его элегантность.
Виды красок по дереву
Чем лучше обработано деревянное изделие, тем дольше оно служит. Однако со временем древесное полотно темнеет и теряет свою первоначальную красоту. Обновить его блёклый вид практически невозможно. Вот тогда и выручает покраска забора. Для этого можно использовать любую фасадную краску, такую как:
- масляную;
- латексную;
- акриловую;
- алкидную;
- полиуретановую.
Опытные специалисты считают наиболее подходящей для покраски деревянного забора масляную краску. Она доступна по стоимости, недефицитная, экологически чистая, хорошо проникает вглубь материала. В отличие от неё латексная смесь засыхает на поверхности древесины, создавая надёжный защитный слой. Несмотря на сравнительно невысокую стоимость, акриловая краска обладает замечательными качествами: устойчивость к влаге, не боится перепадов температуры и солнечных лучей.
Это хорошая защита деревянного дома, а не только забора. Она экологична, поскольку растворителем для неё является вода. А вот алкидная краска по дереву выделяет резкий запах, исчезающий только со временем. Этот её недостаток компенсируется насыщенным цветом, а также высокой надёжностью в дождь и мороз. Полиуретановая краска самая дорогая, отличается устойчивостью к механическому воздействию. Она долговечна, быстро сохнет, создавая привлекательную глянцевую поверхность, но следует помнить, что во время нанесения на забор очень токсична.
Но какой бы краска ни была, предварительно следует подготовить поверхность для её нанесения. Удаляются все неровности, пятна грязи и жира. Затем на древесину наносится тонкий слой водонепроницаемой краски, которая будет защищать её от влаги. Окончательно просохшую плоскость покрывают грунтовкой два раза. Красят забор не раньше чем через сутки, после окончательного просушки грунтовочного слоя.
Реставрация забора
Однако покрашенный забор также не долговечен. Не более чем через 4 года его следует подвергать новой обработке, а, возможно, замене деревянных столбов. Начинают с удаления прежней потрескавшейся краски скребками или металлическими щётками. После чего надо убедиться, что на древесине нет пятен гнили, и она не повреждена насекомыми. Вместо испорченных досок, устанавливают новые и обрабатывают перед нанесением краски.
Продление срока службы ограды обеспечивает правильный уход. Регулярный осмотр позволяет выявить возникшие повреждения, своевременно их устранить, а также произвести замену столбов для забора. Нельзя складывать вплотную к ограждению мусор, скошенную траву или хворост. При хорошем содержании деревянная конструкция будет радовать владельца долгие годы.
