Протяжка кабеля может осуществляться при помощи различных типов приспособлений. Классифицируются они по материалу изготовления внутренней части. Выделяют такие виды протяжек:
стекловолоконные;
стальные;
нейлоновые.
Стекловолоконные протяжки имеют самую большую жесткость. Из-за структурных особенностей стекловолокна стремятся выпрямиться. Это позволяет протянуть кабель через небольшие отверстия, подвесные потолки. Однако обращение с такими протяжками требует аккуратности. Стекловолокно является хрупким материалом, боится изгибов под небольшими градусами.
Стальную протяжку образует металлическая проволока либо лента, запакованная в нейлоновой оболочке. Стальной материал обеспечивает лучшую прочность протяжки на изгиб, растяжение. Такой тип устройства весьма эффективен для протягивания кабеля через Г-образные повороты в каналах.

Комплектация устройства
Традиционно УЗК состоит из комплекта наконечников, стеклопрутка, тележки. Более богатые комплектации могут включать дополнительные аксессуары. Производители предлагают приспособления для захвата протяжки, специальную пружину для быстрого зажима кабелей, гель-смазки.
В зависимости от длины прутка его складывают в круг или наматывают на катушку. Более массивные катушки закрепляют на тележке, которая имеет колеса для удобного и быстрого перемещения.

Для удобства затягивания кабельных проводников пруток с двух сторон оконечен наконечниками. Служат они для удобства захвата и затягивания провода. Так, наконечник с двойной петлей (кабельный чулок) способен быстро и качественно захватывать кабель, весящий до 5,5 т, и удерживать проводник в вертикальной плоскости для проведения монтажа.
Наконечники имеют резьбу, что позволяет присоединять различные приспособления. Это могут быть направляющие головки, соединительные трубки, компенсаторы вращения и др. Наибольшее распространение получили 2 вида наконечников: с направляющей головкой и с ушком для крепления протягиваемого провода.
